How to start Auto Mode:

MUST WATCH - Video setup guide for Auto Mode.

  1. Go to Auto Mode by tapping Mode at the top, center of the screen or by pressing the Mode (M) button on the remote.
  2. Select Sport - Basketball - Next, you tap Select Sport and then select Basketball.
  3. Frame the LEFT side of the court - Next you want to set up the 2 presets Scout AI will move to.  The first is the left side of the court.  Use the remote to move and zoom until the left basket is inside the Yellow box and the basket is Green.  Then tap the (+) button on the remote or Save on the screen to lock in that position.  The best shots are when you can see the between the 3-point line and the half court circle or about 30-35% of the court.
  4. Frame the RIGHT side of the court - Use the remote to move and zoom until the right basket is inside the Yellow box and the basket is Green.  Then tap the (+) button on the remote or Save on the screen to lock in that position.  The best shots are when you can see the entire 3-point line but not the half court circle or about 30-35% of the court.
  5. Press START when ready - Scout AI for basketball is now programmed, you can see it says Presets: 2/2 at the top of the screen.  Here you can Cancel the AI, Start Over and reposition the left and right baskets, or press Start.  The Scout Bot will not move when in this window until you select Start.  While in this window you can Start Recording by pressing the (=) button on the remote.  If you plan on live streaming, you should start it when in this window.  Also, if you need to move your tripod for any reason, you need to Start Over and position both baskets again.  This is because Scout AI logs your phone's position to know where the baskets are and if you move your tripod it will be off.
  6. Auto Tracking Begins - You will see the phone move between preset 1 and 2 at the top of your phone.  1 will be the left side of the court and 2 will be the right side.
  7. Save highlights - You can still save highlights with the click of a button. All you have to do is start the Scout AI and click the remote like usual.  Now you can fully watch the game while still saving highlights to never edit again.
  8. Take over the controls anytime - One very unique thing about Scout AI is that the user can take over anytime.  You can press left (<) or right (>) on the remote to make Scout AI move when you want.  If the game is close and you want to make 100% sure you get all the action, you can tell the AI when to move between the left and right basket and it will pick up where you left off.  You can also pause the auto-tracking and take over manually if you want.
  9. Change the tracking rate - You will be able to adjust the tracking rate by selecting Tracking Rate on your screen and picking between 1-5.  Rates 1 and 2 are great for younger/slower players and rates 3-5 are more suited for older/faster players.  The tracking rate is a combination of pan speed, player recognition, and how Scout AI determines to move.
  10. Pause and resume auto tracking - You can pause and resume Scout AI's auto tracking from the remote by pressing the (=) button.  The first press of the (=) button Starts Recording.  After that, the next press of the (=) button Pauses the tracking, then the next press Resumes the tracking, and so on.  This keeps the camera in one place when there are no players around during timeouts, half time, and other stoppages.  Once players are back in view you can Resume and Scout AI will take over again.
  11. Live stream, record, and auto track at the same time -  If you have an iPhone XS or newer you can record, live stream, and use the auto tracking at the same time. iPhones older that the iPhone XS do not have the specs to keep up with Scout AI.
  12. End auto tracking - To End your auto tracking session, Pause the auto tracking and the select End.

Other information:

  • It is important to get your camera above obstructions like people, fences, railings, etc.  Scout AI uses your iPhone's video feed to examine the game frame by frame to decide when to move.  Part of the game being examined is where the players are, so if they are continually block, Scout AI will move away because it can't find enough players.
  • If you have to move your tripod like between games or because you need to get around obstacles, you will need to run through the set up again.  This is because your phone's location is recorded by Scout AI during the set up so it knows its surroundings.
  • Scout AI records about 95% of a basketball game based on our testing.  We define the game as where the most players are and only count when the ball is visible on the offensive side of the court.  Example: 1 player slowly brings the ball up the court might be missed because all the other players are at the other basket, we do not consider this "missing" the game.
  • No AI is 100%.  If you are looking for 100% perfect tracking of the game, Scout AI is not for you.  Scout AI is for people who already record, but want to actually enjoy the game or for people who want to record, but don't want to spend their time moving a camera the entire game.  From our experience, most people miss several plays during a game for many reasons.  Most likely, Scout AI will record the game better and more consistently than most amatuers.
  • Scout AI will improve over time.  We will take our customer's feedback and incorporate that into new improvements, we already have several in mind.
